Seven things that make for a great summer gathering

1. Something you can throw: hillbilly golf, frisbee, bocce... anything of the like.
2. A fire - a little pit or a bonfire - something to gather around and become mesmerized by. Sometimes I become "firedumb" and get lost in looking at it instead of talking to the people around me.
3. Grilled Meat. And if you are vegetarian, which I respect, you have to at least eat a veggie burger or something that has come off the grill.
4. Comfy lawn chairs... and at least one trick chair that someone falls out of at some point. Its hilarious, even if you are the one that falls. It usually catches you by surprise and does not hurt... much.
5. A mild toasting of the skin. Some reason just a light sunburn is a reminder to me that I had a great time outside. I am not talking full on lobster-hue... just a little pink sun tattoo.
6. Hilarity. I think laughing so hard that I almost lose my corn on the cob is the testament of how comfortable I am with people. And that level of a relationship with the crowd often means that I am with people I adore.
7. Music that people often find themselves grooving to subconsciously. The mix that makes the stoic griller move their spatula to the beat, the beer drinkers show off their moves, or the kids twirling around in circles to it.
